Beginnings

Hello! I’m happy you found your way to this page. This post is the start of something new for me and I do LOVE beginnings.

A little about the author:

I’m a major sucker for romance and fantasy. This is the website of one of my pseudonyms, Jemma Thorne, focused on Jane Austen inspired romance and fantasy. I write fantasy and fantasy romance under another name as well.

I’ve chosen to write works inspired by Jane Austen because she created such rich characters and relationships that she left plenty to play with. Manipulating a single event can result in a cascade of new storylines for her characters — and readers — to explore. It’s exciting to take these characters in new directions, while also playing with the very themes that make Jane Austen’s work so enduring. Family, social constraints and expectations, the juggling of obligations to oneself and one’s family…all of this rings true for any human. We all walk the balance between what we want and what we know is expected.

I do not write “canon” Jane Austen Fan Fiction. I write fiction inspired by Jane Austen’s novels and characters in different settings than Regency England, including multiple time periods and including fantasy elements. I know many Janeites will not appreciate my playfulness with their beloved Jane…and I can certainly understand that and will never take offense! But let me state now that this is not the place for worrying over historical detail. I just don’t play that way when I write fiction. I minored in history in college, and I do love history….but I love fantasy more and I go where my heart leads when I create. History is not my life’s work; storytelling is my life’s work.

I have two JAFF series in progress, and more standalone books on the way as well. You can find links to my books at your favorite bookstore on my books page.
